happy halloween!

from Little Red Riding Hood, the Woodsmen, and the Wolf disguised as Grandma

And despite what it looks like in the picture below (and the pouring rain outside), there was a happy ending to our story. We had a great Halloween filled with three fun parties and lot of tricks and treats. Hope you did too!

And this shot is from today. The Little Miss was eying my wolf nose all day Saturday, so this morning before church she requested a "dog nose" of her own (all day yesterday she kept telling me, "Mommy, you look like a dog," and then she would howl. It made me laugh).

How could I resist such a request?

this week...

...has been filled with nice relaxing afternoons of sewing, and not so relaxing last minute late nights of sewing. Above was the result of a couple of afternoons listening to my favorite genius mix on iTunes while the Little Miss took a nice long nap. Does life get any better?

And the last minute late night sewing you ask? Think giant purple overalls for Husband who decided he needed to be Wario for his work party today (their department decorated in a Mario Bros. theme for a competition).

More pictures to come. And also on the agenda is the gender announcement (I'm not trying to be overly dramatic about it and keep you in suspense, I just haven't had the time to get a post done), and a much needed shop update for the holidays!

Hope you have a safe and Happy Halloween!

little style

Thanks to my sister for these pictures! They are from a few weeks ago during a family get-together.

Dress: vintage thrifted
Brooch: handmade by my (other) sister and I
Tights and Leg Warmers (she insisted on wearing both): Target
Shoes: thrifted

It's a...baby!

Sorry for the tease but I am just so excited that I got to see my little bean today I wanted to show you it's sweet profile! I can't tell you the gender yet (we have a plan of how to tell our families and since most of my sister's and sil's read this blog I have to wait). But can I just say I am so happy to know and so excited for who is coming to join our family.

The Little Miss summed up her experience like this on the car ride home, "Mommy, baby in the ocean. Lay on pillow. Pink rag."

I laughed at her sweet, matter-of-fact observations. Yes, it did kind of look and sound like the baby was in the ocean, and yes, I laid on a pillow, and yes, there was a pink rag covering my pants so the gel didn't get on my clothes. She also made sure to tell the ultrasound tech and the midwife that I had a baby in my tummy. I'm so glad she is starting to understand a little bit about what is going on, she'll be such a good big sister.

baby bump: week 20

A couple more shots from the pumpkin patch, this time of my baby bump. We are officially in the midst of week 20 now which means...drumroll please...finding out the gender! I am so excited! I can't wait to know who is coming, who is punching and kicking and saying hello, and who it is that I already love so so much! Any guesses?

This long cardigan has been my lifesaver, allowing me to still wear some of my shirts that are too short to cover my belly - thus the lumpy, bumpy look I have going on - I guess I should have made sure to smooth all of my many layers. So don't worry, my belly is not deformed, ha!

Tonight we are going up to a cabin with all my siblings to play games and hang out. So glad it's Friday, yay! Have any fun plans?

the pumpkin patch

We went to the pumpkin patch this week, the same one as last year (can you believe how bald the Little Miss was then?). It definitely got me more in the holiday spirit and reminded me that I need to finish our costumes since Halloween is sneaking up on me!

I also contemplated how my belly will soon be the size of a pumpkin.
Oh dear.

h+s kids

Isn't this one groovy little girl? Her dress from hart + sew makes for an adorable Marsha Brady costume for Halloween - and there are lots more amazing options if you need some inspiration for your little one. How about a cowboy, an indian, a sailor, Raggedy Ann, a clown, or a train conductor

If you see something you like, from now until Halloween, mention 'costume' in the message to seller box for a 15% discount!

jeggings

jeg`gings: pants so comfortable you won't remember you have them on.

Okay, so jeggings haven't made it into the dictionary yet, but that is my personal definition. After a week or two of using an elastic hairband to keep my pants on I went out and bought these maternity jeans and I. am. in. love! If you are pregnant (or not) come over to the jeggings-side. You won't ever go back. You can plan on my wearing these with boots every day all winter long.

shop update: clothes to keep warm in

Today I am checking things off my to-do list before we head out for the weekend to see family. Among the items listed was 'add winter clothes to shop' and I am happy to say that I can now cross it off the list! It seems I am lacking in the girl winter clothes department, but the boys are well stocked and I do hope you like what you see.

I'll be traveling tomorrow so have a great weekend everyone!

here's lichen at you kid

Last night when I should have been doing other more productive things (like the laundry) I got side-tracked into creating my first etsy treasury. I was inspired by moss and lichen, check it out here. It was pretty fun -you should try it out if you haven't!

Now I am off to do the laundry.

her new kicks

I've been on a shoe hunt for the Little Miss since she seems to have grown out of hers from one day to the next. I was able to find a pair of warm boots rather easily, but I couldn't find any sneakers that were to my liking (she liked ones that had flashing lights and I just can't go there). And then I remembered these shoes I loved last year - and then I did a little dance because now they are only $13.99! Score!

baby bump: week 18

Yesterday we had a big family get-together at my oldest sister's house so I took the opportunity to take my 18 week baby bump pictures in her beautiful backyard. I wish I would have turned to the side more so you could really see how much I am sticking out because these pictures aren't really telling...I'll make sure to next time.

This is the first and probably last time I will get to wear this cute dress I found recently (at least until baby is here). It's already pretty snug on my growing belly - or I should say my growing belly is making it pretty snug on my bum, but I had to throw it on just once! Baby is kicking and punching hard enough for other people to feel it now and I am feeling great. Can't believe I am almost half way done!

Outfit details:
Dress - vintage
Belt - thrifted
Boots - Urban Outfitters

diy fabric wall decals

I am loving Danielle's home tour, especially the whimsical fabric clouds in her boy's room. I feel like so many possibilities are opened up to me now that I know I can adhere fabric to the wall with cornstarch - although I'm probably the last to know since the tutorial is from 2008. Better late than never! Have you tried it before?

shop update: fall plaids

The latest shop update, inspired by the cool fall weather. Hope you are enjoying it wherever you are!
And wouldn't that top right dress be a perfect Marsha Brady costume for Halloween? I love it.

puddle jumping

We had planned to take a drive up the canyon to see the fall colors but it rained like crazy all. day. long. I never remember to check the weather. But, no worries, we are flexible and puddle jumping was quickly added to the schedule while a fall drive was pushed back to an unknown later date (still haven't checked the weather).

We were happy to meet Mr. Snail who was also out playing in the rain. He had never met a Little Miss before and the Little Miss had never met a Mr. Snail before so it was quite the exciting moment. He showed her how to slither and she showed him how he could hide from the rain under bark.

So despite the change in plans, we had a fun day in the rain in a mostly thrifted ensemble.

Her Outfit:
Shirt - Cherokee, thrifted
Leggings - thrifted new with tags
Boots (yes I know they are snow boots, not rain boots) - thrifted

purple and orange carrots

We've enjoyed our garden so much this summer. We are still harvesting quite a bit (see yesterday's haul above) and I love going out to see what's ready to be put on the menu that day - I'm going to miss that when the snow comes. But for now I am up to my ears in zucchini, kale, and chard ready for the picking, so this weekend will be spent baking, baking, and baking some more. Yum. Hope you have a delicious weekend as well.

Signed,
